【影片简介】：
中国古代素以酷刑闻名，其中尤以满清十大酷刑最为残忍。
月黑风高之夜，邻人闯入屠户葛小大之家，发现了一身是血、神志不清的葛妻小白菜（翁虹饰）与尸横现场的葛小大。小白菜被巡抚刘希同提审，被控与举人杨乃武（吴启华饰）通奸， 合谋加害亲夫。杨乃武严词据理，拒不认罪，碍于其举人身份，刘巡抚不宜动刑，只有收监。于是在刘巡抚的严刑逼供下，小白菜道出与杨乃武认识的始末。原来，杨乃武在自己佃户家收租时爱上了户主之女小白菜，遂请求户主让小白菜到府上帮管家做事
，以此抵租，也为将来纳妾做准备。小白菜亦有心于杨乃武，于是同意。小白菜到府上与杨乃武两情相悦，但碍于主仆关系与杨之正室，不敢越雷。一日小白菜父母惨死，杨百般安慰，二人虽有肌肤之亲却因小白菜戴孝在身而搁置，小白菜发誓孝期一过就嫁于杨乃武。不料小白菜在杨乃武外出时撞破杨之正室与刘巡抚之子刘海生之奸情，杨正室怕风声走漏，遂将小白菜嫁于本县臭名昭著的屠户葛小大,小白菜欲逃走却被抓回捆绑着强亲......
